One of the most important days in your life begins when you start to live with purpose. It’s only when we live with purpose, intention, and feel that we are becoming who we are meant to be that we can get true satisfaction in life.
Living with purpose answers all of the questions that tend to weigh people down.
What’s the point?
Why am I here ?
What does all this mean?
What should I be doing with my life?
Your life’s purpose answers these questions for you and more. It gets you back on track when you feel lost and confused.
Ok, but the real question is… How can you actually find your purpose?
It is hard to figure out what your purpose is if you’ve been told since day one that you need to become something. Life has this tendency to hand us obligations and convince us that is what we need to do in order to feel satisfied.
The problem is, ONLY YOU know what your purpose is, you can’t be told by anyone else. The people closest to you might be able to give you hints but at the end of the day, only you can decide if it’s right for you.
Your purpose isn’t something that is handed to you one day, it’s something that you create for yourself. It’s what brings you the most satisfaction and joy to your innermost being.
So it’s up to you to figure out what yours is and then set an intention to live by that purpose every single day and ultimately, make that your life’s work.
If you’re struggling to figure out what your purpose is, try asking yourself the following questions:
- What gets me out of bed in the morning?
- What was I passionate about as a child?
- What would I be doing if money didn’t matter?
- What types of conversations get me excited and motivated?
- What activity do I do that makes me lose track of time and get in “the zone”?
- If today was my last day, how would I be remembered?
- If I was unafraid, what would I actually be doing?
- How can I use my talents for the greater good of humanity?
- What issues am I passionate about ?
- What do people usually ask for my help in?
If after asking these questions you’re still struggling to find it, another tool that might be helpful for you is trying to find your ikigai.
This Japanese concept indirectly translates to “a meaning to live.” It’s about finding that place where your gifts, skills, passions, and values align to create your purpose.
There’s so many books and resources out there about more on this subject, so I definitely recommend looking more into it if that’s something you’re interested in.
Take some time to really sit down, ask yourself these questions, and reflect on the answers that come to you. Once you have figured out a clear direction for the life you want to live, you can begin making the changes necessary to get you to the place you want to be and live each day more purposefully!
